内容紹介
ヴィクトリア朝時代英国を代表する文筆・芸術家であるウィリアム・モリスの 文学創作や装飾芸術作品の制作が、彼の社会主義思想と深く関わるものである ことはつとに知られています。実際、彼の著作の多くはその活動の拠点となっ た Socialist League(社会主義同盟)の機関紙やパンフレットなどに当初発表さ れています。本集は、モリスが所属したこの同盟の公式パンフレットを中心に その周辺で刊行された様々な小冊子類 47 点をまとめる復刻資料集です。  

第 1 巻には社会主義同盟の2 つのパンフレットシリーズ全点とこの同盟の報 告書等の史料類、第 2 巻は、モリスおよび彼の盟友たちが発表した社会主義に 関する小冊子や、モリス自身も編集に加わった労働歌集など、そして第3 巻に はモリスが行った社会主義と芸術に関する講演録を収録します。  

ウォルター・クレインによる挿画入りの冊子やモリス自身がデザインした活 字体(ゴールデン・タイプ)によって印刷されたものなど、初出時の版面をで きる限り再現し、モリスの思想と芸術の神髄の視覚的な研究や教育の手助けと なるよう編集されています。編者による書下ろし解説(日本語)付きです
