慶應義塾大学文学部教授（アメリカ文学、現代批評理論）。
1955年、東京生まれ。コーネル大学大学院修了（Ph.D, 1987）。
日本英文学会監事、アメリカ学会理事、
北米学術誌 The Jourrnal of Transnational American Studies
編集委員などを務める。
